Edo state governor, comrade Adams Oshiomole yesterday signed the death
penalty bill on convicted kidnappers in the state.
The law, which is an amendment of the previous one, also stipulates
that anyone aiding and abetting kidnappers in anyway is liable to the
same penalty, and premises where victims of kidnapping were kept would
be demolished.
Oshiomole explained that though there were enough laws that served
as punitive measures for various criminals offences, the challenges
being faced by such laws were enforcement.
"The law is signed in good faith; the government has the will to
implement it in totality.
No special task force or tribunal will be constituting to try
defaulters because we are determined to make this state too hot for
them to operate.
This administration has taken necessary steps to effectively
police all the security flash points in the state as we have
discovered that the major criminals were migrants who visit the state
and escape after committing crimes" Oshiomole said.
